A binary linear feedback shift register (LFSR) circuit is built using a polynomial division circuit with no input. Eliminating the input to the division circuit of Figure 4.5, we obtain the LFSR shown in Figure 4.24. Since there is no input, the output generated is due to the initial state of the registers. Since there are only a finite number of possible states for this digital device, the circuit must eventually return to a previous state.
